Exercise – Loosen Up

Everyone can benefit from exercise, stretching of the muscles, ligaments and tendons especially around the back area of the body where aches and pains are most common. Everyday light exercise including walking and stretching can help eliminate pain within the body. The NHS recommend we take 10 minutes a day to exercise and stretch our bodies. A small amount of regular exercise can help conditions such as a backache, knee pain and joint pain and can also help other aches and pains within the body stay at bay. Exercise doesn’t have to be indoors, you can enjoy 10-15 minutes a day outside in the fresh air. Not only this is good for our well-being it also helps the body produce Vitamin D which is believed to help people experience less pain.

In one recent study, the 200 study participants with chronic lower back pain that had no identifiable cause were had significantly lower levels of vitamin D than the 200 people in the control groups without lower back pain, indicating that insufficient vitamin D levels may contribute to or worsen chronic pain.

Eat well and stay hydrated

It is common knowledge that eating a well-balanced diet and staying hydrated throughout the day is good for you and your body. Did you know it can also help reduce pain? Staying hydrated helps the body’s intervertebral discs to stay healthy and reduces stiffness within the body. Drinking between 6-8 glasses of water a day will also help your blood carry healing nutrients and oxygen throughout the body and flush out toxins and impurities which could potentially harm.

Eating a well-balanced diet provides the body with all the nutrients it needs to function correctly. Overeating can result in weight gain and cause an impact on the body’s internal processes and also have an effect on the body’s structure. The body can also be affected if not enough food is eaten either. It can cause muscles wastage and promote poor circulation and body condition. Not only staying hydrated and eating well helps with the structure and designs of our bodies it also has a massive impact on our skin and complexion.

It is recommended men should have around 2,500 calories a day and women 2,000 calories a day – more on this here and here.

Heat and Massage Therapy

The benefits of heat and massage on your body when it is not feeling at its best are amazing. Applying heat on the body in forms of hot water bottles, heat pads, a warm bath or even warming the body up if it is cold can help to ease aches and pains. Heat will increase the flow of healing oxygen and nutrients to the area of the body that it is needed and help ease and suppress pain signals. Some people find wearing a heat pad or hot water bottle on the affected area relieves the joints and muscles and allows more freedom of movement. Before exercise, it is important to first warm the muscles up (which is almost like heating them up) so not to allow muscle or joint damage when exercising. Heat Therapy is also particularly good for conditions such as Arthritis, allowing the muscles to loosen and be used more actively.

Studies have shown that massage therapy not only helps for relaxation, it also helps to diminish the body’s perception of pain. Massage will help increase the blood flow around the body and release the body endorphins which are natural analgesics. There are many different types of massage and it’s finding the correct one to help with your symptoms or conditions.

Sleep Well

Believe it or not, sleep is a massive contributor when it comes to helping to ease pain and promote healing. It is important that your body is getting enough sleep in order for it to replenish and rebuild when not feeling 100%. A healthy amount of daily sleep is around 8 hours and this will allow the body to function properly.
